The Register reported that the 90nm PPC970FX (a.k.a G5 by Apple) will have a significant power drop than its 130nm predecessor, PPC970. This most advanced 90nm chip consumes only 12.3W at 1.4GHz and 24.5W at 2.0GHz while 970 consumes a massive 51W at 1.8GHz. Such low power consumption already makes Dual G5 processors fit perfectly on a 1.75-inch thick Xserve. All Mac fans should be happy that they finally see the light of Powerbook G5.
