What iTunes features I like most

Since I bought my first ever Mac in Aug 2001 for my birthday present, I started to use iTunes on OS 9.1. When 10.1 comes out I switched to OS X permanantly and enjoyed iTunes and DVD playback on X. Year after year, iTunes had been gradually transited from Music player to a full-feature online Music application. Even though I am living outside U.S., I cannot enjoy the music stores when it introduced a year back. The ever-evolving iTunes is always the most-frequently used application on my Mac, even now it is favourite app on my Desktop PC in office!

What iTunes impressed me so far? I write up a list and they are:

  • Share music - Sometimes I listen to my favourite songs while doing programming works in office. I eventually found that some colleagues enable music sharing to allow other to listen. You are allowed to listen to their available songs but prevent you from putting them into your music library. Apple is good in protecting against piracy but also promoting fair sharing.
  • Various encoders - Not to mention MP3, AAC and AIFF, iTunes now offers Apple Lossless encoding. The compression rate is about 40-60% of AIFF, but I think it is good for some die-hard music lover that they don't want any quality loss to their favourite songs when listening to iPod. My boss is one of those. It is not a feature for me, but Apple does a good job to offer more options to users, which I think it's very important.
  • Party Shuffle - This is the feature I really want. Party Shuffle allows you to have all the degrees of freedom to change playlist sequence on-the-fly. It is, as the name hinted, designed to use in party. But for me, it is my default playlist. This feature is going to be a killer!
  • Music Library, playlist and other - Don't know why, it is just very comfortable in browsing music library, working with playlist and organizing songs in iTunes. I think it is why I pick iTunes over others without looking back. Even now I don't use MusicMatch on PC.
